As I mentioned in a previous post, if your program is lucky enough to have a celebrity alumni or fan of your program, it is one of THE most effective avenues for building your brand on a national scale. Whether this is an organic connection or you campaign publically via social for a celeb visit, there is certainly an opportunity to activate around them during big games. WHAT IF you hosted honorary celebrity captains for important match ups? Imagine a coin toss against your heated rival and a famous celebrity is on your side? The pre-game editorial and social conversations and the real-time content capture opportunities are certainly endless here. But don’t just think of celebrities as famous actors or musicians. Leverage your athlete alumni network as well to bring professional stars back to campus on a consistent basis. Whether that’s honoring them with their own “day” or hosting them as an honorary captain, this will no doubt make noise and differentiate you amongst your rivals. Remember, that by attaching your program name to a celebrity’s – whether that is via editorial or social media – you elevate your brand to their status, thus bringing new attention to your school.
