If you’re a photographer, you’re on Instagram.
If you’re a graphic designer, you’re on Instagram.
If you’re a sneakerhead, yep, you’re on Instagram.
Why? Because Instagram is the most visually driven of all the social platforms. Not to mention that it’s huge. As of January 2017, Instagram had amassed 150 million daily active users, making it the perfect platform for someone looking to tell a graphic story. Someone like Joe Haden, NFL cornerback and renowned sneakerhead. It’s no coincidence that Haden has more followers on Instagram than he does Twitter. His off-field brand is very much influenced by his impressive sneaker collection.
Nor is it a surprise that every major sneaker blog has exponentially more followers on Instagram than on Twitter. They thrive off of posting photos representing the latest shoe drop. Nor is it a surprise that the most well-known athletic shoe customizers have more followers on Instagram than Twitter. We want to see their latest works of art. Key word here being see.
According to Entreprenuer.com, “Brands increasingly find that their customers crave visual content, as evidenced by the popularity of social platforms such as Instagram.” Twitter is about the news; Instagram is about the art.
If you are looking to build your personal brand within a visually driven industry like fashion or photography or graphic design, use the platform that does the best job of presenting your work. Today, that platform is Instagram. Tomorrow it might be something else, and if it changes, so should you.
