A major piece of everyone’s marketing strategy is to make sure the events that deserve a lot of attention receive it. Whether it’s hosting a pep rally, giving away free food or trying to think outside of the box to create and raise awareness, we all try to get everyone on our campuses excited about something. However, there might be several things you can do that doesn’t surround a specific athletic event that can be planned to get buy in from your campus constituents. WHAT IF instead of treating your student-athletes to a movie premier at the theater, you hosted the premier in your arena and invited students to watch with your team(s)? WHAT IF that movie premier was its own red carpet event with paparazzi, lights, cameras and more to make it feel special? WHAT IF team building exercises with your student-athletes featured events with a fraternity or sorority? WHAT IF instead of doing a workout during the offseason in your weight room, you hosted a strength and condition class at the on-campus recreation center with student-athletes, hosted by the strength and conditioning coaches? Continuing to create bonds between fans, students, faculty and staff with student-athletes and coaches outside of athletic events will continue to be an important part of creating a passionate and attentive fan base.
