*The following is an excerpt from the book Brands Win Championships*
What do you think of when you hear “face painting stations”? Kids, right? I tell you what I think of:18–22-year-old college students full of energy, passion, and maybe a little alcohol. You’ve got to get into the weeds to affect perception. Yes, I said “into,” not “out of.” The little things can sometimes be more important than the big. Your objective is to create an experience that fans and recruits never forget, and fanatics can go a long way in making that experience memorable and fun. When you see hundreds of students with their bodies and faces painted in their school’s colors, it makes an impact. And as a fan or recruit, you’re going to walk away thinking that particular town is crazy about their team. I don’t care who you are, that’s attractive. Create a comic-con-like atmosphere. Make it easy for your fans to become fanatics, give them the tools, and watch as your stadium experience goes from good to great.
